Let’s Go

Boris and I on Nyameni Main Beach

If you had to tell me a year ago that I would be traveling South Africa with one of my best friends, I would not have believed you – but here we are.

The start has not been easy, not by any means, We have had a lot of problems and stress before even hitting the road – a real rollercoaster of emotions for me.
Planning, trying to do this without actually planning (we are trying to do it the spontaneous way and just go), car problem after car problem. As much as I am a free-spirit and love to be spontaneous, I do get overwhelmed quite easily and anxiety tends to take over – 10 out of 10 would not recommend.

Our trip started in our hometown in KZN, where we then did a little test run trip to Mnyameni, Eastern Cape. We decided to go back home for a day or 2 before heading further down south and that’s where our first problem started… The caravan lights were not working, leaving us a bit behind schedule. This resulted in us having to make an overnight stop at the beautiful Mount Currie in Kokstad before heading to our next destination, what a stress that was. About 50km before reaching the campsite, our car decided to start blowing out white smoke from under the hood. Luckily, before we could even get out of the car an extremely kind farmer stopped to help, time was ticking and it was getting dark and late, the very kind gentleman then decided to help us by towing the caravan to the campsite with his bakkie so we would not strain our car further. The only payment he wanted was for us to pay it forward when we see someone else in need.

After the whole Kokstad ordeal, we got the car fixed and hit the road again. The road down to Coffee Bay was a lot smoother, where we surprised my father who recently moved there. It was absolutely lovely spending some quality time with him and seeing the progress he has made on the property.
We spent the days walking on the beach looking for shells and losing phones – that’s a story for another day – we don’t want to hurt any feelings.

After a few days in the stunning Coffee Bay, it was time to pack up and say our final goodbyes, we won’t be seeing any family for a while from now on. Next stop, Morgan Bay, what an experience this is. The town is small and quaint, almost like something you would see in a movie. You know the one where the girl goes back to her hometown in a small beach village and everyone knows everyone. Well, that’s the vibe I got from this place and I absolutely love it. There’s not much in this town, but the Morgan Bay Cliffs is definitely a must-see. I would highly recommend waking up a little earlier and going to watch the sunrise from the top of the cliffs, just take a warm jacket, it’s chilly up there. If you are willing to brave the icy wind, you will get a few stunning pictures.

We’re very unsure of what the future holds, but more than willing to take it on head first and see where this adventure leads us.
